Mackenzie Phillips, Voice

I believe that anyone that wants to learn to sing CAN. I also believe that learning to sing is not a one-size fits all endeavor, and that it is my job as a voice teacher to take my background and knowledge and find the best way to disseminate that information to my students, tailoring each lesson and class to the student’s needs. I aim to equip all of my students to find a natural, authentic, and free voice. I believe that healthy singing should utilize the natural functions of the vocal mechanism in the most efficient way possible. I believe in leaving my own ego at the door and admitting that I can improve. Students teach me just as much as I teach them. I care about my students and am invested in their futures. I want them to reach their goals of becoming better singers and often, I get to witness them grow as humans in the process.

Sue Johnston, Violin

I believe that you are never too young or old to twinkle. Every child can learn and build new skills in a supportive, loving environment. I believe the key is understanding each student and their individual needs and learning style. Building beautiful tone and exploring musical colors and expression is the focus of my lessons. We explore body movements that balance the relaxation and tension needed to navigate advanced music. I love teaching because every week my students come up with creative ideas and innovative ways to approach difficult techniques. I believe the ultimate goal is not just learning violin or viola but learning how to learn, learning how to understand and express ourselves, and learning how to listen to and care about others. When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling (especially to the beach) and hanging out with my four kids, two cats and one puppy.
